Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak is the well-known author and illustrator of a host of children’s books. Beginning as an artist, he illustrated over 80 books authored by others before he went on to produce more than 50 books of his own. He also produced animated stories for television and video, adapted Where the Wild Things Are for stage and designed sets for opera and ballet.

Maurice won many awards for his work, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award for children’s book illustration, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for children's literature, and the Caldecott Medal for Where the Wild Things Are.

Kei Reira Ngā Weriweri, Kei te Kīhini o te Pō and O le Nofoaga ‘olo’o iai Meaola Uiga’ese are part of the translation series of classic storybooks that HUIA are producing.

Maurice passed away in 2012.
