Donna Awatere Huata studied educational psychology at the University of Auckland and worked for ten years as an educational psychologist in Otara. She has been a teacher and a principal. Between 1970 and 1980, she led the charge on Māori land issues, Māori health and the creation of women's refuges. In 1996, Donna was elected to parliament to represent ACT New Zealand. Donna is the author of three best selling books: Maori Sovereignty, My Journey and Zero Tolerance.
