Damian Skinner

Dr Damian Skinner is a freelance art historian and curator who has worked with many galleries and museums, and published widely on New Zealand art. Damian received his PhD in Art History in 2006 and was a Newton International Fellow at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Cambridge in 2013.

One of Damian’s key focuses in his writing is Māori art; his other titles include The Carver and the Artist: Māori Art in the Twentieth Century, Ihenga: The Evolution of Māori Art in the Twentieth Century and Art in Oceania: A New History. Damian is currently working at the Auckland Museum as curator of Applied Art and Design and finishing his newest book, The Māori Meeting House: Introducing the Whare Whakairo.
