Kelvin Day completed an MA (Hons) in Anthropology at the University of Auckland in 1983. Since then, he has worked in several New Zealand museums and published a number of articles on archaeological and museum collection topics as well as the book Māori Wood Carving of the Taranaki Region.
From 2007–2013 Kelvin was the Manager of Heritage Collections at Puke Ariki, New Plymouth. He is currently the Tumuaki at Puke Ariki.
