Agathe Thornton

Agathe Thornton was a lecturer in the classics department at the University of Otago from 1948 until 1975. Agathe was responsible for overturning the University’s rule that married women with children could not be employed. Agathe also learned te reo Māori and undertook comparative studies of Māori and Greek oral literature.

Māori Oral Literature: As Seen by a Classicist is currently out of print.

Agathe passed away in 2006.
