NgātiWhakaue (Te Arawa), Patu Harakeke (Ngā Puhi), Kāti Waewae (Kai Tahu). Simon was born in Christchurch and raised in Northland. He completed an undergraduate degree in psychology at Massey University and then completed his postgraduate training in clinical psychology. On finishing his clinical training, Simon worked for several years as a clinical psychologist at Te Whare Marie ‒ a Māori mental health team that services the greater Wellington region. Following this, he returned to academia and completed his PhD under the auspices of a Health Research Council Clinical Research Fellowship. His research explored the adaptation of cognitive behavioural therapy for Māori and incorporated Māori concepts into a traditionally Western modeloftreatment. Simoniscurrentlya seniorlectureratMassey University and has been the coordinator of clinical psychology training at Massey’s Wellington campus for the past four years.
