Dr Hinemoa Elder (Te Aupouri, Ngāti Kurī, Te Rarawa, Ngāpuhi) works clinically as a specialist in youth forensic psychiatry, writing reports for courts and reporting under the Intellectual Disability Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation Act, sees young people with traumatic brain injury, and participates as a deputy member of the New Zealand Mental Health Review Tribunal. She is the current Māori strategic leader for the Centre of Research Excellence for the Ageing Brain, holds a Health Research Council of New Zealand Eru Pomare Post doctoral Fellowship and is a professor at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi. She is a staunch advocate for the use of te reo Māori in all settings, including research and medical practice.
