This graphic novel is about Meariki, a slave who serves a chief’s only daughter, Hineamuru. When Hineamuru is abducted by a warlock, Meariki and Pēhi, a young warrior and Hineamuru’s lover, go on a hazardous journey to rescue Hineamuru.

Pēhi is brave but arrogant, while Meariki is clever and resourceful, and the journey’s success rests on her. During the adventure, Pēhi and Meariki uncover hidden truths, and Meariki realises that in saving Hineamuru, her own true destiny will be revealed.

A Māori-language version is also available, Meariki: Te Rapunga i te Pono.

This is part of the Matawehi Fables/Ngā Waituhi o Matawehi. Another title is also available in English, Arohanui: The Revenge of the Fey, and in Māori, Arohanui: Te Utu a Ngāi Parehe.
